Chor Boogie, born Jason Hailey in 1979, was raised in Oceanside, California. At the age of five, his kindergarten teacher handed him a paintbrush, and he fell in love with the creative process immediately, telling his teacher, "When I grow up, I am going to be an artist."
A self-taught artist, Boogie's passion is fueled by the work of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Rembrandt; he also draws inspiration from more modern artists such as Klimt, van Gogh, and Dalí.
Nearly a decade ago, a deep spiritual healing and recovery from addiction transformed his life and had a major impact on his style and use of color. Chor Boogie moved to San Francisco in 2007 to pursue a full-time career in art.The work seen here is a mural commissioned by the Melbourne Stencil Festival in Melbourne, Australia.
