Fang Lijun (born 1963) is a Chinese artist who lives and works in Beijing.
Known for his surreal paintings, Lijun is credited for having started the Chinese art movement "cynical realism," which gained popularity following the violent 1989 protests in Tiananmen Square. Lijun's famous bald figures with contorted facial expressions have become emblems of contemporary Chinese art.
This piece, Series 3 No. 15, is currently on display in Half-Life of a Dream: Contemporary Chinese Art from the Logan Collection, an exhibition at SFMOMA. Read our listing for more information.
