From creator of poetic images to compelling storyteller, Jerry Schatzberg has excelled in photography and filmmaking for more than three decades. With work published in Vogue, McCall's, Esquire, Glamour, and Life, Schatzberg captured intimate portraits of the generation's most notable artists, celebrities, and thinkers — from Bob Dylan to Robert Rauschenberg. His '70s work contributed to a burgeoning renaissance of American cinema, directing films such as: Puzzle of a Downfall Child (1970), The Panic in Needle Park (1971), Scarecrow (1973), and Reunion (1989). His films mark a significant time in the history of film when the importance of solid and introspective narrative proved paramount.
Schatzberg's images of Bob Dylan are currently on display in the Thin Blue Mercury exhibition at Proud Gallery in London. Read our listing for more info.
