Joep van Liefland is a Dutch multimedia artist who works in painting, drawing, video, and guerilla art.
Famous for his grotesque, hilarious take on pop culture and sex, van Liefland gained notoreity for his extremely graphic video works that riff on the Nazi pornography of the 1960s and contemporary veggie pornography currently gaining momentum on the internet.
This piece, Hollywood Was Yesterday, is included in the summer group show Jekyll Island at Honor Fraser in Los Angeles. Van Liefland's two mock film posters included in the show reappropriate lowbrow iconography to gain access to our contemporary cultural anxieties about mainstream media's collapse.
