Kathryn Parker Almanas' photographs articulate the confusing and multifaceted nature of the body and illness. Fascinated by the body's mysteries, Almanas creates still lifes as metaphors of the body and dissection. Almanas plays with oppositions — interior and exterior, domestic space and medical space, human flesh and fruit flesh, doctor and patient, dissector and dissected. Ethereal light and corporeal subject matter create tension. Her work challenges the ways we perceive medicine and the body. Almanas' work is currently on display at Chicago's Kasia Kay Art Projects Gallery.
