Marilyn Minter was born in 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and lives and works in New York. She received a bachelor's degree in fine art from the University of Florida in 1970 and a master's in fine art from Syracuse University in 1972.
She had a solo show at SF MoMA in 2005, and was featured in the 2006 Whitney Biennial. Her first monograph was published by Gregory R. Miller in 2006.
Minter's work has been the subject of recent solo shows at Salon 94 and Creative Time in NYC, and at Gavlak Projects in Palm Beach, Florida.
Last summer, she created the first-ever centerfold for the legendary art magazine Parkett.
Along with Mika Rottenberg, Minter is currently featured in the show SWEAT at the Laurent Godin gallery in Paris.
This fall, she presents her large-scale photos and paintings of Pamela Anderson at the Andréhn-Schiptjenko gallery in Stockholm, Sweden.
