Born in rural West Virginia, Hansel creates hazy wooded landscapes where the idle moments of youth are imbued with mysticism. Hansel finds ways of making ordinary, even familiar moments seem unearthly. His hooded teenage stoners are at once painfully alienated and deeply connected.

Hansel is a Brooklyn-based artist. He received his BFA at Cooper Union and his MFA at Yale. He is represented by Jack the Pelican Presents.
