Matthew David Powell is a graphic designer and avid street photographer living and working in New York City. Since 2005, he has been published in Photos > MDPNY, a New York photo blog and has been an active flickr contributer.
Much of Powell's work aims to document the experience of living in contemporary NYC through street photographs of people interacting with their urban environment, architecture and often-overlooked details of growth and decay. In addition to his street work, he has created portraits for many authors and performers.
Most days Powell can be found wandering the streets of Manhattan, camera in hand. He is currently at work on a new series which follows the rapid transformation of his Washington Heights neighborhood.
This week's covers are presented in collaboration with Flak Photo. Flak Photo is a photography website featuring distinctive work from an international community of contributors that promotes unique visual perspectives on the world and celebrates the art of exhibiting quality photography online. The blogzine is produced by Andy Adams and features work from new photo essays, book projects and gallery exhibitions from established and emerging photographers. Available online at Flak Photo.
