Cover for Issue 247
London
Issue 247 July 15, 2008

Robert Altman (born 1944) is an American documentary and editorial photographer based in San Francisco. Altman attended Hunter College at the City University of New York. From 1969-1971, Altman worked as the Chief Staff Photographer for Rolling Stone magazine, famously photographing the Summer of Love and Woodstock. Following his early success as a photographer for Rolling Stone, he expanded into the realm of fashion photography and fine art. Altman also became a television producer/director. In the 1990s, he transitioned from film media to digital media and is now active as a digital photographer.

Altman's images of the 1960s were recently published by Santa Monica Press in The Sixties: Photographs by Robert Altman. Photographs from the series are currently on display at the Idea Generation Gallery in London. Read our listing for more information.
