Robert Altman (born 1944) is an American documentary and editorial photographer based in San Francisco. Altman attended Hunter College at the City University of New York. From 1969-1971, Altman worked as the Chief Staff Photographer for Rolling Stone magazine, famously photographing the Summer of Love and Woodstock. Following his early success as a photographer for Rolling Stone, he expanded into the realm of fashion photography and fine art. Altman also became a television producer/director. In the 1990s, he transitioned from film media to digital media and is now active as a digital photographer.
Altman's images of the 1960s were recently published by Santa Monica Press in The Sixties: Photographs by Robert Altman. Photographs from the series are currently on display at the Idea Generation Gallery in London. Read our listing for more information.
