Samvel Saghatelian graduated from the Yerevan Institute of Architecture in Armenia. In 1988, on the brink of the USSR's collapse and Armenia's independence, he began making art.
In 2001, Saghatelian's work was featured at the Armenian pavilion during the 49th Venice Biennale. In 2002, he was awarded an ArtsLink Fellowship and spent time at the Vermont Studio Center.
Saghatelian now lives and works in Los Angeles, where he has worked as the chief curator at Black Maria Gallery for three years.
Architectural Monsters, Saghatelian's most recent series of drawings, sketches, and paintings, is a study of the phantasmagoric mutation of human forms into structural monstrosities.
