Scott Waterman was born in Florida but has spent most of his adult life in the state of California. He has a Bachelors in Fine Art but also studied college-level horticulture, which feeds his interest in plant forms, their processes, and natural and man-made landscapes. Painting for a living started as soon as Waterman left school and includes commissioned work spread over a number of continents in public and private collections. Waterman stays curious by alternately shifting his attention between minutia and the big picture. This applies to computers and the Internet, home improvement, gardening, traveling, collecting, yoga postures, and art making. He finds that there is often more richness at hand than one realizes. Waterman likes decorative arts, industrial arts, and commercial arts. Craftsmanship and control is appealing, although he's just as likely to be equally impressed with the ultra-refined work of Ingres as Emil Nolde's primitivism.
