Steve Double has been working as a professional photographer for over 20 years, specialising in celebrity portraits.
During that time, he has dealt with every conceivable situation, from extreme tardiness to indecisive clients, from stroppy subjects to nonfunctioning equipment.
Highlights include being granted 90 seconds to photograph Bill Gates, waiting six hours for the Spice Girls, being sworn at by Ken Dodd, being chided for lateness by Public Enemy, drinking Caipirinhas with Nick Cave, blagging a business-class upgrade off Richard Branson, spending five days in a van with Nirvana and never having to wear a tie.
He has worked for numerous music magazines and record companies. Recently, his photos have been used as album covers for James Blunt's Back to Bedlam, Peter Gabriel's Hit and Lethal Bizzle's Against All Oddz.
Editorial clients include the Guardian Weekend, Observer Magazine, Esquire, Icon and FT: How To Spend It.
Double's work is held in the permanent collection of Britain's National Portrait Gallery.
Steve Double's images of Kurt Cobain are currently on view at Proud Galleries in the exhibition Forever 27. Read our listing for more info.
