The Edge of Heaven is the latest feature-length film by Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin.
The Edge of Heaven is played out in Turkey and Germany. The characters travel between these countries, and consequently through their own lives as well. Akın tells the story in calm pictures, unagitated and slow-paced. The emotional key to the film is death, which each protagonist faces in a different way. Thus, the initially uncommunicative people slowly begin to uncover themselves.
Fatih Akin first caught the international film media's attention in 2004, when his film Head-On — which depicts the relationship between two recovering psychiatric patients of Turkish-German descent — won the Best Film and Audience Award at the European Film Awards.
