“Touring in support of their sophomore full-length, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, and December release Lawrence, the boys who go by Girls deliver catchy indie-pop tunes that span genres from psychedelia to surf-rock and gospel. Based in San Francisco, the band's core consists of songwriter Christopher Owens and bassist/producer Chet "JR" White. Owens, who was raised in the Children of God cult and speaks openly about his opiate addiction, began collaborating with White in 2007 following a bad breakup. With lyrics that explore love and loss, Girls beg comparison to the Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, Pink Floyd, and the Everly Brothers.”

Taking the classic California pop template perfected by Brian Wilson and applying a woozy, narcotic makeover, Girls make music that sincerely glorifies adolescence - a youth of hopeful confusion and love strong enough to hurt you. You’ll detect 50’s surf-pop, 60’s psychedelia and 80’s shoe-gaze at play here – the West Coast-by-way-of-somewhere-else; but ultimately San Francisco washes over this music.
