The film featuring the the infamous Torn hammer attack screens followed by a Q&A with Mailer's son
This Norman Mailer twofer features the outspoken novelist's finest directorial hour, Maidstone. Starring Mailer as an experimental filmmaker running for president, the guerrilla-style film is likely best known for its brawl scene, where a hammer-yielding Rip Torn went after Mailer. Accompanying the feature is a rediscovered short shot just before the writer published his first novel. Following the screening, Mailer's son Michael, biographer J. Michael Lennon and film archivist Michael Chaiken are slated for a Q&A.
