One of the biggest events of cultural calendar, the Museum Mile Festival is an evening art crawl that gives New Yorkers the chance to visit some of the city's greatest institutions for free. Born some 36 years ago to promote public support of the arts, this year's celebration shuts down Fifth avenue to traffic between 82nd to 105th street and spans nine cultural institutions. In addition to outdoor musical performances and art activities, you can check in on the Jewish Museum’s Mel Bochner: Strong Language, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s Italian Futurism, 1909–1944: Reconstructing the Universe, The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Charles James: Beyond Fashion or exhibits at The Museum for African Art, who is participating for the first time. The festivities kick off at 5:45pm with an opening ceremony at The Museum of the City of New York, where you can also look in on City as Canvas: Graffiti Art from the Martin Wong Collection.
