Blue C (as in “Blue Sea”) is a new-to-LA sushi restaurant adjacent to Hollywood’s Arclight Theater. Following up on their six successful Seattle locations, this sushi spot offers local, responsibly sourced fish, and Head Chef Junya Enoki, who has worked with “Iron Chef” Masaharu Morimoto. Order from the sushi bar, or pull small plates from the conveyor belt. Blue C also boasts a raw bar, with changing offerings including live scallops, black tiger shrimp, oysters, and live sweet prawns. One of their most popular dishes is the Loaded Baked Potato, a seaweed-wrapped medley of potato salad, bacon, cheddar, sour cream, caviar, bonito, and chives. Sushi purists may scoff, but it’s delicious comfort food, as are the spicy tuna tacos and yellowfin tostada (served on a crisp wonton shell). Also noteworthy are the sesame noodles and the vitamin-packed spinach gomae. As far as desserts go, the cream pan was okay – very good custard, but the pastry lacked flakiness – while the vanilla cupcake and the mocha were excellent. Besides sake and beer, you can also enjoy a drink from their signature cocktail menu, two types of shochu, or choose from the dozen or so bottles of wine.
