The Brooklyn Philharmonic under the Brooklyn Bridge is about as Brooklyn as it gets.
Summer's going away, so it would be wise to spend as much time outdoors as possible before it starts getting cold again. Thankfully the Brooklyn Philharmonic is teaming up with spoken word artist Ishmael Islam for late-September concert underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Named the New York Youth Poet Laureate in 2012, Islam released his debut collection, "Meet at Greene," last year. For this special performance, which is part of the Brooklyn Book Festival Bookend Events, selections from Islam's debut are intertwined with contemporary chamber music for strings by Mark Mellits, Don Byron, and Randall Woolf.
