According to CITY GRIT, the NoLiTa Culinary Salon from Chef Sarah Simmons, you haven’t eaten well until you have eaten Asha Gomez’s food. CITY GRIT will be playing host to an authentic, Kerala-inspired menu by Cardamom Hill on Saturday, April 26. Owner and chef, Asha Gomez combines Southern Indian flavor with Southern Americana and the results never disappoint. Cardamom Hill’s menu highlights the flavors of Gomez’s native Kerala, a southwestern Indian state famously rich in spices, coconut, and seafood. Its historically prominent location along the European-Asian spice routes has made Kerala a hub for various culinary influences, and Cardamom Hill showcases these traditional combinations as well as more modern ones to provide diners with unforgettable lunch and dinner experiences.

Guests will enjoy five courses of Gomez’s perfectly plated dishes, including a Spiced Tomato Pie, Pork Vindaloo, Cardamom Corn Bread and Green Bean Thoran. Highlighting the coastal regions of the American South and Southern India, she will prepare Burned Butter Rice and Lentil Porridge with Spicy Kerala Shrimp. Served family style will be Beef Biryani – the Indian answer to paella. Mango, Ginger Fried Jam Pie with a melted jaggery and cumin sauce will satisfy the sweet tooth and serve as a decadent dessert. Guests will end their edible journey with a cup of Chai – because no Indian meal should end without a cup of Chai.
