Sat Nov. 30, 8pm in SF and Sun. Dec 1, 8pm in Berkeley

Clerestory, the Bay Area's acclaimed nine-man vocal ensemble, ushers in the holiday season with "Clerestory Christmas," featuring all-American works both old and new. Clerestory Christmas will evoke American holidays past and present, from wintery Native American sounds to familiar carols and classic American jazz. "Clerestory Christmas" will be performed Saturday, November 30 in San Francisco and Sunday, December 1 in Berkeley. (See Calendar listing, below.)

The fourth installation in Americana-the ensemble's ongoing exploration of great choral music from the U.S.- "Clerestory Christmas" includes works by Morten Lauridsen, William Billings, and John Jacob Niles as well as Ray Charles, Joseph Jennings and Clerestory founder Jesse Antin. Classic Christmas tunes will be enlivened with new arrangements from Abbie Betinis, Joel Martinson and Eric Banks.

The concert will run just over an hour with no intermission.

Clerestory's singers, from countertenor to bass, are professional veterans of San Francisco's finest vocal groups, including Chanticleer, Philharmonia Baroque, American Bach Soloists and others. Since its founding in 2006, Clerestory has performed across the Bay Area, including regular concerts in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Palo Alto, along with appearances in Sonoma, Santa Cruz and Lodi. The ensemble has been featured on National Public Radio and on San Francisco's KDFC. Clerestory's concert recordings are available for free listening or download at http://www.clerestory.org/free-concert-archive.

Clerestory is named for cathedral windows that let in daylight; the group tells the "clear story" of music through sophisticated performances grounded in decades of experience singing together. Clerestory is a tax-exempt non-profit organization with a mission of providing high quality performances to local audiences at affordable prices.

$25; $15 students/seniors.
