Culture Fix: Tharron Bloomfield on Māori CloaksFowler Museum at UCLA (North Campus of UCLA) Map it Free
The stunning textiles featured in Māori Cloaks, Māori Voices have never been shown publicly since they entered the Fowler collection in 1965. For this exhibition, the Museum invited Maori artists and scholars, including Tharron Bloomfield, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Conservation Resident in the UCLA/Getty Program in Archaeological and Ethnographic Conservation, to comment on the cloaks’ ongoing meanings and relevance. In this gallery talk Bloomfield discusses indigenous material culture as it relates to his Māori perspective.
