diNMachine will perform two new long pieces. Both pieces have as their foundation a drone:
this drone, originally created using sine tones, was improvisationally filtered to bring out
different tonal areas, the result was then analyzed by Melodyne software, which "composed"
a MIDI version of the filtered performance. This MIDI composition was then re-performed by
a phat string synth and this treated as a kind of electric tambura over which musicians
Joining diNMachine will be Benton-C Bainbridge and Sofy Yuditskaya, who will perform a live
video mix for the first composition, called Pulss; and Bala Skandan (violin), "Indofunk" Satish
(trumpet) and Tim Keiper (percussion), who will improvise for the second piece, called Strnth.
Brian Chase explores the sound of the resonance of a drum. Within that resonance is an
amazingly diverse and sophisticated assemblage of tones. These tones can be isolated and
extracted to form strikingly beautiful sound paintings, providing the aural counterpart to the
video projection of Ursula Scherrer. Her images will fill the surface of the space, emphasizing
the interplay of light and darkness, form and rhythm - a moving painting. Sound and projection
are independent and yet intricately connected with each other.
