Film Retrospective and Q&A by Estonian director TANEL TOOM
Estonian director Tanel Toom got a nod from the American Film Academy early in his career when The Confession, his graduation film from the National Film and Television School, earned an Oscar nomination in 2011 for Best Live Action Short Film. This same film was the winner of Best Foreign Film in the 37th Student Academy Awards one year earlier.
In 2008, Tanel’s fourth short film entitled The Second Coming premiered at the Venice Film Festival. This apocalyptic war drama has since been screened at numerous film festivals, winning several awards including Best European Short at the Archipelago International Film Festival.
