A toast to first-time filmmakers
First Time Fest 2014AMC Loews Village 7 (66 3rd Avenue, New York, NY) Map it $15
After a successful launch last year which found Martin Scorsese, Darren Aronofsky, Sofia Coppola, and Todd Solondz in attendance, First Time Fest is back with another round of debut features by today’s rising directors. At the heart of this cinematic affair is the competition section which this year features 10 international films, including Mona Fastvold’s Sundance entry The Sleepwalker, Tommy Oliver’s 1982 and Josephine Decker’s Butter on the Latch. Also returning is the festival’s First Exposure program which sees accomplished filmmakers presenting their first full-length films. For 2014, Peter Bogdanovich, Michael Moore, Kelly Reichardt, Lake Bell, and Albert Maysles have all signed on to participate. Private workspace collective NeueHouse is partnering up to host the panel discussions and Julie Taymor is being honored with the fest’s John Houston Award.
