Cookbooks are only a portion of what you'll find at this hearty celebration of food writing, reading, and activism. Founded in 2012 by Elizabeth Thacker Jones, an NYU food studies grad student who heralds the rise of a new breed of foodie, the Food Book Fair features a bounty of books and periodicals, as well as cooking demonstrations, thought-provoking discussions, and screenings. This year, 60 visionaries, including renown coffee master Tim Wendelboe, Museum of Food and Drink's David Arnold, cookbook author Bryant Terry, restaurateur Christophe Hille, and Lucky Peach editor Peter Meehan, debate topics such as financing your food endeavors, race and food, GMOs, and the evolution of the cookbook. Also on tap is a pop-up brew pub, a food book slam, a magazine fair, a multi-course dining experience at Egg celebrating To Kill a Mockingbird, a pitch competition for food start-ups, and a lecture and umami celebration with biophysicist Ole G. Mouritsen. There's certainly plenty to chew on at this three-day fete. For complete details, check the fair's website.
