Children can join in by dancing, singing and marching with a full symphony orchestra
Together in Music, the Greenwich Village Orchestra's annual family concert will feature music by Rossini (Variations for Clarinet and Orchestra, with soloist Gary Dranch), Beethoven, Strauss and Ravel along with original compositions by our guests from the Miracle Project and the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Institute. At this interactive concert children can join in by dancing, singing and marching with a full symphony orchestra. Everyone can meet the musicians and try out instruments at a free reception immediately afterwards.
Together in Music
It has been part of the GVO's mission to reach out to our community, so we have been delighted to be involved with Together in Music, a program of orchestral concerts for children with special needs started by Barbara Yahr, GVO's Music Director and a board-certified music therapist. It combines the traditional young people's concert with the model of a group music therapy session to create a unique and engaging concert experience for all children, and especially the special needs population and their families. We bring musical experiences which are interactive and improvisational, experiences which will make possible the kind of human connections which can take place both in a music therapy session and in the concert hall.
-- To build an inclusive community for all children, including young people with special needs, and their families.
-- To provide an interactive concert experience which is accessible and engaging for children in a safe, supportive environment.
-- To provide an opportunity for children to perform with an orchestra, to experience the unique sound of an orchestra and for families to take pride in what their children have accomplished.
