Curated by Greg de Cuir, Jr., the special presentation of highlights from the Academic Ciné-club of Belgrade includes a selection of groundbreaking films by innovative Yugoslav directors who were part of the cineaste community of cineastes that emerged in postwar Serbia (then Yugoslavia). From the dreamy films of Živojin Pavlović and the feverish and celebratory Rimbaud-inspired cine-poetry of Nikola Djuri to the rhythmical, ‘domestic ethnography’ of Bojana Vujanović, the lush, surrealistic naturalism of Zoran Saveski’s, the poetic documentaries of Dragoslav Lazić, and the proto-structural, minimalist masterpieces of Tomislav Gotovac, the program offers a rare glimpse into a forgotten history of avant-garde, experimental films and underground ciné-club culture from a neglected region.
