Esotouric’s double-feature tour probes downtown LA’s neglected history, stitching together shrouded stories to spin a yarn of a city steeped in secrets. Resurrecting, recounting, and reconstructing felonious facts and fables from LA’s fertile past, the time-travel tour takes participants on an exciting expedition to explore and unearth the memories and mysteries buried in downtown’s dens of debauchery and historic hangouts. During the “Hotel Horrors” portion, hosts Kim Cooper, Joan Renner and Richard Schave summon secrets that still shudder in the shadows of LA’s hotels and storied haunts. Pay a visit to the skeletons snoozing in the closets of such hotels as the Alexandria, St. George, Barclay, and Cecil—all sites of infamous incidents—and learn about two of LA’s most memorable murderers, the Skid Row Slasher and the notorious Night Stalker. The second portion of the four-hour tour, “Main Street Vices,” paints a vivid vignette of the old promenade’s ribald, racy, and raunchy past. From dirty picture parlors, burlesque bordellos, nickel donut dives, naughty nudie booths, and paltry pawnshops, corruption, crime, and commerce will be chronicled alongside seedy stories of sleaze and smut.
