Iranian-American artist Samira Yamin, whose mixed media work is currently on display at CAFAM as part of the Displacements exhibition, leads a short tour of the show, during which she explains her fascination with optical toys and anomalies. Following the talk and tour, participants will construct various 19th century animation devices that, although originally designed as experiments investigating the mechanics of vision, quickly became objects that inspired wonder and awe in adults and children alike. In addition to assembling a large, collaborative zoetrope (which will remain on display in the museum), participants will also create smaller devices to take home once the workshop culminates.
