Ink-N-Iron FestivalThe Queen Mary (1126 Queens Highway, Long Beach, CA) Map it $40
After retiring from its day job in 1967, the iconic Queen Mary turns into a vessel of "kustom culture" during the Ink-N-Iron festival, welcoming enthusiasts of 50's-inspired subcultures aboard its three floors. The whirlwind weekend--part convention, part community festival--features tattoo contests, pin-up pageants, and pole championships, plus a vintage fashion bazaar, a Kulture Klash art show and art book fair, a "Pleasure Portal" cabaret, a Motorama car show, screenings of classic spaghetti westerns at the ship's Tiki Drive-in stage, and three days of live music, including sets by legendary old-timers like The Buzzcocks, The Damned, Merle Haggard, Suicidal Tendencies, and Sick of it All, in addition to new kids on the block like Nick Waterhouse. From cool cats sporting pompadours, mohawks, and retro mullets, to corseted pin-ups clad in vintage get-up, to ink aficionados with full sleeves and back pieces on display, the festival will surely be a spectacle of kustomized characters and throwback lifestyles.
