Indie-pop served up by Nick Thorburn and gang
Crushable and quirky Canadian-born Nick Thorburn and his ever-evolving indie-pop band Islands return with a new album to tout, Ski Mask. Thorburn, who has also recorded under alter ego Nick Diamonds and ventured out with side projects Mister Heavenly and Human Highway, formed Islands in 2005 when his band with Alden Penner and Jamie Thompson, the Unicorns, sadly went extinct. Ski Mask, the band's fifth full length and first to be released on their own label Manqué Music, consists of 11 soul-searching tracks that are said to have been written from a place of anger. Tonight, Thorburn, joined by bandmates Evan Gordon and Geordie Gordon, pay Bowery Ballroom a visit with Martin McNulty Crane's Brazos and Houston MC Fat Tony as openers.
