Osamu and Hironao Hamada, Washi artisans from Kochi prefecture, will visit Kala Art Institute as part of their US 2013 tour. The Hamada brothers will demonstrate traditional papermaking techniques as well as offer a lecture on Japanese paper (washi).
Osamu and Hironao are two of only a few artisans still making traditional
Japanese papers by hand. They apprenticed with their grandfather, Sajio Hamada, who is a Living National Treasure of Japan.
