Ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr hits the stage solo at the Fillmore
If you were sixteen right now and it was 1984 and you put on The Smiths, you would probably end up with a smooch on the cheek at the very least as a reward for winning the angsty teenage heart of your darling dearest. Nearly twenty years later, it’s safe to say that The Smiths still have the same effect, but honestly, what would they be without the sounds of Johnny Marr’s Fender Telecaster moving with Morrissey’s vocals? It would not be The Sound of the Smiths, thats for sure. Since Marr left The Smiths in 1987 he has gone on to work with countless other artists such as The Pretenders, Modest Mouse, The Cribs, The The, and Electronic, just to name a few. However, this past year Marr released his debut solo album, The Messenger, which gives us a chance to experience his music in a new way.
