“And I know, because of KRS-One.” Pioneering rapper and activist Lawrence Krisna Parker aka KRS-One earned infamy not only as a talented emcee, but as one of the most radical, outspoken and uncompromising figures in hip-hop. Few of his peers command as much respect. Since starting his recording career as one half of Boogie Down Productions in 1987, KRS-One has received accolades for his skills on a mic as well his unrelenting support of civil rights in the face of racial and economic oppression from community leaders and leading hip-hop artists alike, receiving a BET Lifetime Achievement Award and a Living Legend Award from the Urban Music Awards, as well as being cited as a crucial inspiration to many in the industry today.
