The Brooklyn label celebrates 5 years with a 2-day fete featuring Ariel Pink, Spiritualized and more
The Brooklyn indie label that's released such smashing records as Washed Out's Life of Leisure, Best Coast's Crazy for You and No Joy's Wait for Pleasure, is marking its fifth birthday with a massive two-day aural orgy featuring performances by Spiritualized and Ariel Pink. An offshoot of Kemado records, Mexican Summer has come a long way from its humble digital and limited-edition vinyl beginnings in 2008. Over the course of just a couple of years the label expanded its catalog to nearly 100 releases across multiple formats. Today, operating out of Greenpoint alongside siblings Software Recording Co., Gary's Electric recording studio and CO-OP 87, the label sports an impressive roster, a stellar reputation and a loyal following. In addition to honored guests Spiritiualized and Ariel Pink, No Joy, Tamaryn, The Fresh & Onlys, Happy Jawbone Family Band, Quilt and others are also taking the stage at the indoor/outdoor birthday celebration, which goes down at Pioneer Works in Red Hook. Prime Meats, Frankies Spuntino 457 and Brooklyn Brewery are providing food and liquid refreshment and Rockabus is supplying transportation to and fro. Indie music fans don’t let this gathering pass you by, it promises to be the talk of the town.
