Join us for the final event in the inaugural Mindshare Showcase series! Showcase I has unfolded over 3 months. January 23rd's “Open Mic” event featured 15 short presentations selected from attendee submissions. The audience selected 3 to advance to February 27th’s “Talks” round. At the end of that event the audience selected Samy Kamkar's "Hacking & Transparency" as their favorite topic..

SCHEDULE: Thursday, March 27th. Doors 7pm, Program 8pm-9:30pm.

Mindshare LA, Curator & MC

Doug co-founded Mindshare LA in 2006 as a monthly Los Angeles event series which continues to expand its large local following. From the event's early days he led Mind- share Labs, which used technology to augment social interaction and was eventu- ally spun off as Syyn Labs in 2009. With over 50m YouTube views, Syyn gained quick notoriety for its “This Too Shall Pass” music video collaboration with OK Go. In late 2012 Doug left Syyn to refocus his energy into Mindshare, continuing to host events while growing the organization into a full blown experience design consultancy. His hobby projects include mixing charity and public improv with The Tuxedo Tyrants, and orga- nizing workshops events that fall at the intersection where Science Meets ART aka SmArt.

Samy Kamkar / @samykamkar
Hacker & Showcase WINNER!

Samy Kamkar is a co-founder of Fonality and a security researcher, best known for releasing research demonstrating surreptitious geolocation tracking methods employed by the Apple iPhone, Google Android and Windows Mobile operating systems even after users' explicit decisions not to use geolocation features. He also developed the Evercookie, demonstrating more than a dozen methods of respawning cookie tracking that are or could be employed by advertising companies against a user's will, and is known for creating The MySpace worm, one of the fastest spreading viruses of all time. When not strapped behind the Matrix, Samy can be found stunt driving or getting involved in local community service projects.

Mike Russek graduated with an MFA from Maryland Institute of Art in 2001, with a focus in sculpture. He started his own company,1028 Designs, in 2005. 1028 Designs is a custom design and fabrication facility utilizing laser tooling to create furniture, interiors and various products and solutions. Syuzi Pakhchyan / @fashioningtech
Designer & Fashion Technologist

Syuzi Pakhchyan is an experience designer whose work investigates the intersection between code, cloth and culture. Her design and research interests include wearable technologies, physical and soft computing, and interactive textile design. Her book "Fashioning Technology: A DIY Intro to Smart Crafting" explores the emerging creative practice of soft circuits and soft technologies. Syuzi's projects have been exhibited at Eyebeam, an Art and Technology gallery in New York, the Fashion Future Event in Pisa, South by Southwest Festival, Maker Faire and Emerging Technologies Conference. She received her BFA from UC Berkeley in Literature and her MFA in Media Design from the Art Center College of Design.

CEO, Two Bit Circus

Brent Bushnell is the CEO of Two Bit Circus, a Los Angeles-based "make tank" focused on building products at the crossroads of amusement and education. The interdisciplinary team strives to make entertainment more enriching and education more fun. Most recently the team launched STEAM Carnival, a modern re-imagining of the midway to inspire kids about science, technology, engineering, art and math. Previously he was the on-camera inventor for the ABC TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. He was the CEO of Doppelgames, a mobile game platform company that sold to Handmade Mobile in 2012; he's a founder of Anti-Aging Games, a company creating casual games that reduce the risk of early memory loss; was a founding member of Syyn Labs, a creative collective combining art and engineering to create high engagement for large brands and bands including Google, Disney and responsible for the viral hit Rube Goldberg music video for OK Go that garnered 40 million views on YouTube. In his spare time, Brent mentors teens in game development and entrepreneurship via programs such as Spark and NFTE.

Super Tall Paul is a multi faceted entertainer of tall proportions. As a Jazz musician, Paul learned early on the power & joy of improvisation but with his uncontrollable creative curiosity, his expression could not be contained to one medium & continues to expand. You can see SuperTallPaul street performing, engaging kids as his lovable clown persona heybeepbeep, with his live electronic acid jazz band Helios Jive, as one half of the comedy duo the Ross-N-Paul show, & with his spontaneous street theater troupe suddenlydapper.

Popcorn is a free bi-monthly salon promoting art, ideas & community. Each month creative individuals gather to hear a variety of talented folks share stories, comedy, poetry, music and other performances!


Games: All attendees can choose to play a game during the event which will be announced at registration and encourage random interaction.

Skillboard: When registering each attendee has the opportunity to add their own “Offers & Needs” to our digital “Skillboard” which will be on display at event.

Online Discussion: Attendees are welcome to create an online discussion space via the hashtag #MindshareLA
