60+ feature- & short-length films from Philippines, China, Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong & more
From Hong Kong horror to Taiwan pulp, the 12th annual New York Asian Film Festival presents a mighty cross-section of films from the other side of the world. Screening over 60 feature- and short-length films, this edition serves up new cinema from the Philippines, a showcase of exploitation films from Taiwan, and a mini-retrospective of films starring Korean character actor, Ryoo Seung-Beom. Other highlights include Secretly Greatly, about trio of Northern Korean sleeper agents tasked with killing each other; Yan Yan Mak's The Great War, a documentary about the concert battle between Cantopop band Grasshopper and hip hop duo Softhard; and the New York premiere of Johnnie To's Drug War. A number of special guests from Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, are also making appearances at the festival.
