It's that magical time of year again when the New York Philharmonic brings their classical brilliance to various parks in the city. Under the direction of Alan Gilbert, the Philharmonic performs five free evening outdoor concerts in Brooklyn (7/9), Queens (7/10), Manhattan (7/11 & 7/14) and the Bronx (7/15), and an additional indoor concert in Staten Island (7/13). Among this year’s selections are Richard Strauss’s Don Juan (7/9-7/11), Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Overture-Fantasy (7/9-7/11), and Grieg’s Peer Gynt (7/14-7/15). And be sure to stick around to the end of the performances in Prospect, Central and Van Cortlandt Parks, as fireworks follow. NOTE: The 7/15 performance in Van Cortlandt Park has been cancelled due to weather.
