In 2009, the folks behind L Magazine pulled off the first Northside Festival, an ambitious multi-day cultural shindig centered in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Six years and hundreds of concerts, screenings, and panels later, Northside has grown into a formidable festival that spans eight days and showcases "what's next" in music, film, and business. Boasting upwards of 350 bands, 50 films, and 80 speakers, this year's highlights include performances by CHVRCHES, Thee Oh Sees, The War on Drugs, Beirut, Courtney Barnett, Sharon van Etten, Albert Hammond Jr., and Marissa Nadler, and films such as SXSW hit Fort Tilden, The Selfish Giant and Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton: This Is Stones Throw Records. In the business sector, Northside Innovation is jammed with panels and talks. Among this year's speakers you'll find Jon Steinberg of Buzzfeed, Daniel Doctoroff of Bloomberg Media, Bre Pettis of Makerbot, and Chad Dickerson of Etsy. It seems like the festival is evolving everyday, so check their site for more details.
