Now a formidable component of the festival, film was introduced to Northside in 2010. Having a track record for serving up a eclectic indie mix, past films have included Errol Morris' Tabloid, Ai Weiwei Never Sorry, Sarah Polley's Take this Waltz, and Todd Solondz's Life During Wartime. For 2014, the festival has again enlisted the help of organizations like BAM, IFP, indieWIRE and DCTV to come up with a program of over 50 films, both classics and the soon-to-be-released. Invading various neighborhood theaters, highlights of this year's slate include SXSW award winner Fort Tilden, Vera Chytilová’s 1966 farcical comedy Daisies, Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton: This Is Stones Throw Records, and Alex Winter’s documentary about Napster. Northside also continues it's commitment to rising filmmakers with its DIY competition that dishes out cash prizes.
