David Tennant stars as Richard II in the first of a series of Shakespeare plays presented at the Rafael from the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon. To be filmed live in mid-November, this production is released exclusively to American theaters in December. RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran directs Tennant as the monarch whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war that would last 100 years. Other cast members include Oliver Ford Davies as the Duke of York, Michael Pennington as John of Gaunt and Nigel Lindsay as Bolingbroke. Future productions in the coming months include Henry IV Part I, Henry IV Part II and The Two Gentlemen of Verona.
