After a successful launch last year, Housing Works Bookstore Café and McNally Jackson Books are teaming up again for another edition of the Downtown Literary Festival. A celebration of our city’s unique literary culture, the day-long Harper Collins-sponsored event features book signings, discussions, and readings from some of your favorite authors and performers. This year’s festivities, which expand to include programming at Bowery Poetry Club, find Stephen Elliott, Rosie Schaap and Saeed Jones sharing stories of sin and salvation, Richard Price and Francine Prose discussing the city's shifting economic landscape, Colm Toibin, Edmund White and Heidi Julavits participating in a literary cabaret, and Maris Kreizman hosting a downtown movies edition of her storytelling series Slaughterhouse 90210. The free-for-all culminates in an after party at Von.
