After spending his adolescence in the Australian Outback, German filmmaker Peter Sempel continued to explore the globe for thirty odd years, during which he created an extraordinary body of work. During the Goethe Institut’s eight-hour Sempel marathon—spanning 33 years of the filmmaker’s career—the documentarian’s penchant for art and music will be evidenced through his ‘personal portraits’ of icons including Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld, Nina Hagen, Motörhead's Lemmy, and Allen Ginsberg. Expect cameos by Nina Hagen, Lene Lovich, Yello, George Clinton, Anthony Kiedis, and Neo Rauch, with Sempel himself in attendance.
