We were already fans of The National, but Mistaken For Strangers gave us a new-found admiration for the band; which may be a little misleading, since the film isn't really about the band. This cinematic romp, which opened the Tribeca Film Festival last year, is about the its director, Tom Berninger, the bumbling baby brother of the group's lead singer, Matt Berninger. Tom is hired to be a roadie on the National's 2010 tour supporting High Violet and hopes to turn the experience into a documentary about the band. However, as things begin to derail for Tom, the project takes a different course. Mistaken for Strangers is an entertaining and earnest film about Tom's personal voyage and it also reveals the members of The National to be great sports and very down-to-earth. And while it's helpful that you know the band, the film should still resonate for non-fans alike. Tonight, you can catch a special sneak preview of the film with the director and members of the National present.
