"Sam Francis: Five Decades of Abstract Expressionism from California Collections"
This exhibition brings together artist Sam Francis’s paintings and unique works on paper from extraordinary public and private California collections, many on view to the public for the first time. Known as one of the twentieth century's most influential painters of light and color, Francis maintained studios all over the world but continually returned to his native California.
"Ignite! The Art of Sustainability"
This exhibition features works by thirteen California artists in varied media who have long focused on issues of the environment and sustainability. Born out of “community dialogues” hosted by the Green Museums Initiative Committee of the California Association of Museums, the resulting works by Kim Abeles, Robert Dawson, and Ann Savageau among others, incorporate both historical and contemporary perspectives on the natural and human forces that have shaped the current landscape of California.
"Somewhere in Between: Los Angeles"
In this video installation, Los Angeles artist Bia Gayotto investigates the experiences of those who live in an intercultural space and reflects on the pluralities of place, identity, and belonging. She invited residents living along Route 66 to participate in an interview and video shoot that examines life in fourteen neighborhoods along the route from Pasadena to Santa Monica.
