Tapenade is an inviting California-Mediterranean restaurant tucked away amongst Sawtelle’s enclave of Japanese eateries in West LA. With a kitchen helmed by Chef Ressul Rassallat, formerly with such highly regarded kitchens as the Four Seasons Beverly Hills and L’Orangerie, the menu at Tapenade does not disappoint. A perfect start to your meal would be their bacon-wrapped dates, with a bit of manchego or blue cheese tucked within, or perhaps one of their five different Brussels sprouts dishes. The Spanish-style Brussels sprouts burst with flavor, complemented with chorizo, capers, manchego, marcona almonds, and sherry vinegar. Tuna tartare and seared sashimi is another winning starter, beautifully augmented with shavings of yuzu and avocado. The green asparagus salad with baby artichokes, jamon Iberico, and lemon-truffle dressing is another must-try, as is the lamb agnolotti with a madeira reduction, black truffles, and parmesan. For a heavenly sweet finish, try the banana gratin. It’s nestled in an almond crust and served a la mode. Possibly the best night to check out Tapenade is Tuesdays, when they offer their Tuesday Night Dinner Social special. A remarkably good deal for food of this quality, it’s just $58 for two people. Each diner enjoys any three dishes from the menu, with a maximum of one entrée per person, along with the option of 20% off any bottle of wine.
