The young, rising afropunk brotherhood celebrate the release of their new EP
Brothers and band-mates Mikaiah Lei (lead vocal, guitar, bass), 20, and Anaiah Lei (drums & percussions, backing vocal), 16, recorded their first album together when they were just 15 and 12, respectively. Four years, three albums, two Vans Warped Tours, two Afro-Punk Festival Tours and countless European festivals later, fall 2013 will see their debut release with FADER Label and their first national headlining tour (dates to be announced.)
Simultaneously “tough and melodic, punk 'n' blues” (Rolling Stone), their style has caught the attention of critics and fellow musicians alike, including Laura Jane Grace (formerly Tom Gabel of Against Me!), who named the duo one of her favorite acts on Warped Tour, as well as Damon Albarn who recently coined them his “current favourite band,” adding, “The Bots are the only people I know who can skateboard on a train. They’ve got so much potential and energy, I’m really looking forward to seeing what they can do.” Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Social Distortion, Refused, Tenacious D and Bad Brains, to name a few, are also fans, having all hand-selected the two young brothers from California as main support on various shows and tours.
