Summer's over; time to get dark.
The Dead Dream MachineLa Luz (135 Thames St, Brooklyn, NY 11237) Map it $20
Walk down a few industrial blocks in Bushwick at night and you'll come upon a theatre on the outskirts of town gleefully nailing the last nail in summer's coffin. Upon entrance, creepy projections on an old red velvet curtain complete the Silencio-scene-in-Mulholland-Drive vibe. The Dead Dream Machine is a thoroughly entertaining compendium of dark skits ranging from a teenage horror spoof to a hilariously foul-mouthed puppet show to gothic burlesque ballets and aerialists. Bonus points for a finale with a rotating crop of guest vocalists performing Nick Cave's "There Is A Kingdom" - upcoming stars include Justin Vivian Bond and Michael Musto.
