What started out as a joke has turned into an alternative comedy tradition
Since launching an alternative comedy festival named after himself as a joke in 2008, Eugene Mirman has certainly upped his profile. In addition to touring internationally, he plays Yvgeny on the TV series Delocated, is the voice of Gene Belcher on Bob's Burgers, and has the reoccurring role as sidekick to astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson on StarTalk Radio. But even with all the fame he's found, he's still committed to putting together a killer comedy fest every year in Brooklyn. Jumping back-and-forth between Union Hall and the Bell House, this year's four-day fete sees the return of former weekly comedy staples Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen, Pretty Good Friends and Invite Them Up. Among those guesting at Mirman's shindig are Ira Glass, Jon Benjamin, Wyatt Cenac, Michael Ian Black, and Todd Barry. Some of the shows are already sold out, so act quick if you want to attend one of the most laughed-at events of the fall social calendar.
