Mike Albo was a struggling freelance writer, proudest of his occasional articles in the New York Times style section, when he accepted a free ticket to a 3-day "mystery" vacation sponsored by an airline. His new one-man show tells the hilarious story of that ill-fated trip and its aftermath. An innocent desire for a free vacation and some corporate-sponsored swag led to a snarky blogger singling him out for "ethics violations" (relating to his role as an NY Times writer), resulting in a quick descent: he is fired by the Times, his boyfriend breaks up with him and he becomes a random casualty of internet-age hypocrisy. Albo is a compelling performer, enlivening his tale of demise with charm and wit to spare, while successfully avoiding an overly self-pitying tone. The absurdity of the situation allows Albo to inspire some catharsis from the memorable tale of his martyrdom to the catty, internet-fueled fall of the print empire.
